Can you also not wait to finally go on an art excursion together? Well, for the quick decision-makers, we have reserved a coach and 30 entrance tickets for the finissage of the Biennale of Painting. MDD (Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens), mudel (Museum of Deinze and the Leie Region) and RRM (Roger Raveel Museum) have joined forces and present a strong 7th edition of the Biennale.

Under the title Binnenskamers (Inner Spaces), the three visual art museums at the Leie offer us an opportunity to discover a wide range of modern and contemporary painting from Belgium and abroad. From historical figures such as Jean Brusselmans, Gust De Smet, Emile Claus and Roger Raveel to contemporary artists such as Chantal Akerman, Joëlle Dubois, Walid Raad, Bendt Eyckermans and Luc Tuymans, the Biennale shows a unique cross-section of the medium in all its diversity. The works in the Biennale represent a wide range of interior types, including a studio, a domestic interior but also inner spaces of the imagination and the psyche.

Although the theme of Binnenskamers was chosen long before the outbreak of the coronavirus, it has a particularly strong resonance after the lockdown that affected much of the world. Each partner institution in the Biennale of Painting approaches this issue in its own way, while sharing a common framework. Works from their own collections engage in a dialogue with those loaned from other public and private collections, as well as, with contemporary works of art. The input of each of the three curators testify to insight, individuality, and personality.
