Lichen, Prize for Curators

CIAP and Curatorial Studies – KASK & Conservatorium are proud to announce the launch of the inaugural Lichen Prize for Curatorial Studies alumnae/alumni. As a testing ground for visual thinking in diverse forms, CIAP has initiated and endowed the Prize to foster and support curatorial innovation in Belgium. The Call is open to all alumnae and alumni of the Curatorial Studies programme – as well as of its earlier forms: TEBEAC and ‘Beheer, conservatie en restauratie van museale collecties hedendaagse kunst’ – regardless of age, current professional status or geographic location. The Lichen Prize consists in the opportunity to organise a curatorial project – whether exhibition, performance or another format – at CIAP, Hasselt, in late 2019 or 2020. As part of the Prize, all fees, logistics, installation and communication costs relating to the selected project will be covered, within the budgetary limits allocated to exhibition projects at CIAP.

Procedure
Applicants are requested to provide a brief outline of the project (max. 500 words, including names of proposed artists or collaborations), a CV, an estimated budget (max. 1 A4, recto only) and any supplementary material (images, recordings) so long as the whole application can be sent in one email. All the attachments should be merged into one PDF and named: Lichen Prize_applicantname. Please repeat this information in the subject of your mail. The applications can be submitted in Dutch, English or French. Applications are to be sent to info@ciap.be no later than Friday 31 May 2019, midnight. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. A jury composed of staff and board members of CIAP, tutors from Curatorial Studies – KASK & Conservatorium and an invited external curator will assess all completed applications. Interviews of shortlisted candidates will take place on Thursday 13 June 2019 in Ghent. Please specify in your cover letter if you would be able to attend.

The Jury
• Louise Osieka (CIAP)
• Alicja Melzacka (Alumni Curatorial Studies, curator ‘Where widowed objects  meet orphaned ideas’ at CIAP)
• Valerie Verhack (Artistic Board, CIAP)
• Antony Hudek (Curatorial Studies – KASK & Conservatorium)

The selected project will be publicly announced on Sunday 30 June 2019 during the KASK & Conservatorium graduation ceremony in MIRY Concert hall, Ghent.
